The sailboat is traveling east at 40mph in an ocean current that moves south at 30mph. What is the resultant velocity?
I came up with 40mph southeast but I’m not sure that’s right.

50 mph SE
Pythagoras - square root(30^2+40^2) = 50
at an angle of 36.86 off east. (tan-1(30/40))
50 mph at an angle of 37 degrees south of east.
its a 3,4,5 triangle the angle is 37 degrees
