I would like to get a prototype made and then get it into a boat show or something similar. Any suggestions?

Get in touch with either a mechanical engineering or industrial design firm in your city, and/or the nearest large city. Usually they’ll want you to supply a CAD file, so if you don’t have one you’ll also need to have that made. The firm will be able to give you a couple of names.

Check with your local Small Business Development Center (SBDC) sponsored by the SBA and a local college or university.
The consultations and professional help is free and reliable; plus, they know a lot of other people and may know just the people who can help you get your prototype made. They can also help you start up, plan, and perhaps help you navigate to a successful business….

Once you get your invention built(made),go here and file a patent on it so no one can take your idea from you and make money off of it leaving you “out in the cold”. There’s also a section for a will in case anything happens to you. YOU get to decide who gets what not the state or Uncle Sam.
