What are living conditions like onboard commercial sailing vessels?

I’m curious to know what living conditions are like onboard the average commercial sailing vessel. I’m considering attending a Maritime academy and becoming licensed as a sailor/deck officer.

How are the living/sleeping quarters? What about showers and bathrooms?

Is it possible to still become an Olympic sailor if I start sailing at a relatively older age (20)?

It seems all the olympic class sailors start really early or are born into sailor families. I just moved to a city where I can learn sailing, and I’m in love with sailing already, wish I had started earlier. To all the great sailors out there, is it ever possible for a late starter to bloom in competitive sailing?

Do I need a full wetsuit for sailing in winter?

I’m sailing in April, May and July and I’m planning on getting a wetsuit. Should I get a shortie and then wear a fleece, windbreaker or rashie OR should I a full suit?
